Buzzkill expands its streaming reach with Fawesome availability

Peter Plano and Joanna Keylock lead a family comedy-drama with an episodic continuation in development.

Buzzkill, the independent comedy-drama directed by Alexander Pollock and written by Peter Plano, Joanna Keylock and Frederick Stroppel, is now available on Fawesome, according to the filmmakers. The filmmakers also report availability on Amazon Prime Video and Relay. Availability and viewing terms may vary by location.

Plano plays Patrick Delaney, a struggling actor whose return home brings him face to face with his drinking and his family. Keylock plays his sister Jesse. Their relationship gives the film its central tension: the anger of people who know one another well, and the attachment that survives those arguments.

The 40-minute, 15-second film pairs comedy with a story of addiction and complicated family relationships. Its ensemble includes Therese McGinn, Daniel Sarnelli, Christopher Reilly, Melissa Patterson, Marco Caviglia, Annie Pisapia, Andrew Kelly, Al Dubinsky, Theresa Rose and Fatih Demir.

Joanna Keylock won Best Actress – Short Film at the 2025 Golden State Film Festival. Buzzkill also received 2025 Garden State Film Festival nominations for Peter Plano’s lead performance, Keylock’s supporting performance and the ensemble. Alan Ng awarded the film 8/10 in Film Threat.

Based in Astoria, Queens, Plano has longstanding ties to Connecticut, where he studied theatre at Southern Connecticut State University and performed extensively. His work includes film, television and stage roles, including originating roles in Frederick Stroppel’s Perfect Pitch, Soul Mates and Harvest Time. Buzzkill brings those acting and writing experiences together in a project he co-wrote, produced and leads.

The creators have developed a ten-episode Season One outline to continue the world introduced in the film. The proposed series follows Patrick’s efforts to address his addiction and rebuild his life, including his relationship with Jesse, his extended family and his acting ambitions. The team is seeking an appropriate producing and financing partner for further development.

Buzzkill was originally released in 2024. Its current publicity campaign focuses on helping new audiences find the film and introducing the creative team through interviews and editorial coverage.

Interview requests, publicity imagery and private press-screening inquiries can be coordinated through The Elephant Room. Guest participation and scheduling are confirmed individually.

Cherell Evans brings a broader vision to Purpose DNA & Health

The Greenville founder connects family experience and more than a decade at LabCorp with a growing specimen collection and education business.

GREENVILLE, S.C. — When Cherell Evans was advised to name her company simply Purpose DNA, she chose to keep Health. Her years in laboratory work had given her a wider vision for the business she was preparing to build.

Evans brings more than 15 years of phlebotomy and specimen collection experience, including more than 10 years at LabCorp. Her laboratory background includes blood collection, DNA specimen collection, drug-screen collection and fingerprinting. That experience helped prepare her to grow Purpose DNA & Health beyond its original emphasis on DNA testing.

The business now provides DNA testing, including relationship and non-invasive prenatal paternity testing; professional specimen collection; blood draws and laboratory work; mobile DOT and non-DOT lab-based urine drug-screen collections; and education. It does not currently offer rapid drug testing. Laboratory analysis is performed by laboratory partners.

Evans’s work also has personal roots. She cared for her mother before losing her to kidney failure, and a DNA discovery within her family deepened her understanding of how test results can affect identity and relationships. While working at LabCorp, she says she was drawing a patient’s blood and quietly praying when she heard a voice say, “Your purpose is in the blood.” The experience helped shape the company’s name and direction.

“I created the company to give people a place where they can get answers while being treated with dignity, compassion, and respect,” Evans said.

Purpose DNA & Health was established through paperwork in September 2024 and opened to clients on October 27, 2024. Evans recognizes October 27 as its anniversary. The business serves Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson and surrounding Upstate communities by appointment; mobile arrangements depend on the service and location.

A mother of two originally from Muskegon, Michigan, Evans also works in acting, helps small businesses with websites and teaches through Purpose Lab Academy. Her separate business, Champain Insurance, focuses on life, health and Medicare insurance. Its roots also connect to the experience of helping her mother navigate healthcare and coverage.

Young actors earn praise in Simpsonville-made film

Triston Parks and Brayden Parks bring a child’s perspective to a story about love, rejection and belonging.

SIMPSONVILLE, S.C. — Two young actors in the Simpsonville-made drama The Measure of a Man are drawing attention through a recent independent review. Triston Parks and Brayden Parks portray young Demetrius and young Antoine in a film that asks what children carry forward from the way a family treats someone who is different.

Written and directed by Demetris A. Jones, the film draws on his childhood memories. For Triston and Brayden, the task was to help turn that personal history into believable relationships on screen. Both had acted before; Jones identifies this as their first experience carrying an entire film.

In her September 16 review for Just Add Color, Monique L. Jones highlighted the children’s work, describing “good performances, particularly from the children, who I feel acted in a mostly organic way.”

Set in 1980s Atlanta, the story centers on the influence of Michael Hamilton, a gay Black man portrayed by Reginald Haskins Jr. His kindness shapes a child’s understanding of manhood, while family tensions bring questions of acceptance and belonging into everyday life.

The film’s inspiration began with a brief visit: the director’s father’s cousin Michael stayed with the family for approximately two weeks when Jones was twelve. The memory endured. The screenplay expands and fictionalizes that experience, giving its young performers a role in bringing a lasting childhood impression to the screen.

A feature with Triston and Brayden can introduce the people behind the performances: how they approached their characters, worked with scene partners and experienced taking on major roles. Interview participation will be coordinated with their family.

The Measure of a Man is produced by Flaming Elephant Films and distributed by Silver Line Entertainment. The 2026 drama is now streaming on Tubi.
